We finally made it up the river today to go and see the waterfalls that Krka National Park is famous for. It is a series of waterfalls. The smell of the clean fresh water as it cascades over rocks is wonderful. There were a fair number of tourists visiting the falls. This is the largest number of tourists we have seen in any one place. Having said that, there was still plenty of space to enjoy the beauty of the falls and river.

The Krka hydroelectric dam was the first Croatian hydroelectric plant and was put into operation just two days after the one in Niagra Falls based on Tesla’s design, in August 1895. Ironically, Tesla was Croatian and is a national hero. The plant in Krka started supplying electricity in 1895,whereas the one on the Niagra Falls only started supplying electricity in 1896.
