We drove to Berkeley from San Fransisco, crossing the bay on a stunning, relatively new Bay Bridge to go and visit Allegra, John’s niece, who is currently studying there. Allegra met up with us and gave us a quick tour of her shared home. I loved it, as almost every available wall and door space was covered with art.

While Allegra went to some classes, we walked the beautiful campus and then went up to the botanical gardens. It was a lovely day to be strolling through this serene environment with vistas that stretched all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Checking into the Fairmont Hotel in Berkeley, was in awe of its understated grandeur and elegance. I loved the pool area with the outdoor hot tub, and enjoyed the last of the sun’s warmth in the hot tub enjoying the ambiance.

Allegra and Grant came and joined us for drinks and dinner at one of the lovely restaurants of the hotel.

Fun fact: The Obamas stayed here when they came to visit Berkeley.
