We decide to spend a couple of days exploring the coastline by car and since we have seen postcards, books, ads everywhere about the TV series Poldark, decided to see if we could explore some of the areas where the filming took place. I watched all eight episodes of Season 1 in one sitting and highly recommend it. It is available on both Amazon and Netflix. Amazon has Series 2 as well. The story is gripping and the scenery spectacular.
We decide to stop by the tin mines of Botallack and stop first in the little town of St. Justin. St Justin has flowers blooming everywhere! Even all their lamposts are painted with flowers. There is a lovely church and cemetery there, and of course, I have to go and visit it.
The scenery at the mines of Botallack is stunning and the ocean draws you in both in its colors and wildness. The footpaths and trail to the ruins on the cliffs are treacherous, but well worth the journey to take in the views from there. Next, we take a coastal road all the way to St. Ives and although this town is very touristy, the beach is wonderful and is filled with people in wetsuites learning to surf. It rains on and off while we are there, but that does not deter anyone on the beach and in the surf.
