August 4th
We intended to leave tomorrow for Messina, but after a bike ride to the town along the coast and exploring the town, we have decided to stay a few days. There is something about this place. Long white beaches with few people, crystal clear water that is pristine. Very friendly people. Great food – including lots of fruit and vegetables, and an interesting town. Very few tourists, even Italians – an unsung gem!
Spent the afternoon lazing on the beach with a good book, went into the ocean for a swim about 50 times to cool off – the water is very refreshing without being cold. John went for a long snorkel. Just love this place.
Looks like my kind of town…beaches, pretty, quiet & good food. Love that line “No Italians, an unsung gem” Not to paint with a broad brush but I have to agree on the whole. Do you run into a lot of Germans? Seems like those two countries love to world travel.

Yes, you would love that area. Wild beauty. Non-touristy. Affordable. Beautiful beaches and water. Interesting. No Germans in Italy so far. Mainly in Croatia and some in Greece. May be that they don’t like the heat of August.
